Strengths Outweigh Weaknesses for Taylor

CQ Politics takes a close look at Iraq veterans running for congress, and Texas' own Van Taylor was mentioned:

Van Taylor- Republican
• District: Texas 17 (East central — Waco, College Station, Bryan)
• Strength: A Marine veteran, he’s running in territory that takes in President Bush’s Crawford ranch; Bush carried the district with 69 percent in 2004.
Taylor is personally wealthy and has proved adept at fundraising in his first bid for office.

• Weakness: Democratic incumbent Chet Edwards already has a strong base of
veteran support. He’s better funded than ever and knows how to win a tight race;
he was held below 52 percent in 2002 and 2004.
